Red Top Draft Horse Days

Save the Date!  - April 9-10, 2011

Red Top Draft Horse Days was established initially in 1992 with just a few folks getting together to plow and chat.  As the years have progressed, our friends have grown and the activities have become a bit more organized.  As many as 200 people visit the Red Top Ranch in April of each year and teamsters from all over California -- and some distant states -- arrive with their draft horses and equipment.  Besides our resident Shires (usually 7-10 in number) we have about 50-60 visiting draft horses representing the best known breeds, Belgians, Clydesdales, Percherons and Shires, with a scattered few of light horses, crosses, ponies and minis.  Everyone is welcome.  The event is a Christian centered value base which gives children and families a welcome and safe place to play and enjoy.  If you are coming with horses and equipment, you are welcome to arrive prior to the weekend.  Dry camping is available with restroom facilities and water for your horses.

NEW!  Sargent Equestrian Center will hold its regular monthly Friday Social at Red Top this year.  Dinner Friday night (Mexican food prepared by Susan and Jeanne) and lecture on something relevant to Drafts (TBD).  No charge for the dinner or the social.  RSVP will be appreciated but not necessary.

NEW!  Lessons will be offered by Sargent Equestrian Center, Vernon Helmuth and Jeanne Williams, on all things draft.  JUNIORS WELCOME!  Use your own horse and equipment or use theirs.  Only $50 for an hour's lesson.  Buy several in a row if you want.  Please contact Jeanne Willliams by email at jeanne@sargentequest.com or Susan Lyons at susanlyons25@msn.com to reserve your spot sometime on Saturday, April 9th or Sunday, April 10th.

Seminars:
There are seminars on harnessing, showing and braiding on Saturday from 10:00 until 1:00 pm

The Red Top Ranch is a historic ranch developed in 1916 by the Swift Cattle Company.  It has interesting historical barns, the ranch is in various stages of restoration and hosts collections of horse drawn equipment.
Activities at Draft Horse Days are a wide variety designed for the beginning horseman up to the teamsters that grew up behind the plow and have tons of knowledge and skills to share.

Seminars at Draft Horse Days

The Lion's Club is cooking on Saturday, selling lunch and snacks.  A fantastic barbecue featuring Tom Pigg's famous ribs is served by them on Saturday evening for only $15 per person on the front lawn.  The barbecue is followed by a barn dance with a live band.
